Description Kitten Carols at the Castle Cherry Ambrose / Cherry Felts: Scotland Medium: Mixed. Needle-felted kitten choir with wooden theatre. Assembled using a selection of found and new objects. Size: Theatre measurements: Height: 43cm Width: 39cm Depth: 19cm Cherry creates whimsical needle-felted characters, many of which are inspired by her home in the beautiful Scottish Highlands. For this exhibition, Cherry draws inspiration from the cat art of Victorian artist Louis Wain and the popular 19th-century hobby of making toy theatres or juvenile drama sets. The theatre is comprised mainly of painted sealed wood and includes battery-operated sensor lighting, traditionally styled curtains, star décor and ornately turned wooden feet. The backdrop features a mixed-media collage image of Edinburgh Castle. Each cat figure is wrapped in a cosy scarf, posed as though singing in a choir, standing atop a wooden disc while holding a paper hymn sheet. Each cat figure is freestanding and can be completely removed from the theatre. Please be aware that this item contains painted and sealed wood elements.
